Saturated Fat

A diet that’s high in saturated fat may decrease the brain’s ability in fighting off the formation of brain plaque associated with Alzheimer’s disease, according to a 2013 report from JAMA Neurology.

Saturated fat also impairs your brain’s ability to understand and create new memories, according to Dr. Ewan McNay, Assistant Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience at the University at Albany in New York. According to Dr. McNay, saturated fat can have this short-term effect as quickly as 10 minutes after you’ve swallowed the first bite of food containing it.
